Orpheus (2011) James Button

Orepheus by James Button, is about a man who is having a guilt trip of flashbacks of an accident that killed his girlfriend/wife and unborn child. It begins with the main character seeming happy and content in his life, looking happy to see the girl lying next to him. We know that something is amiss when we realise that he is wearing a suit in bed, which is not something one would expect.

When he looks back he sees that she is no longer to be found. He goes searching for her under the covers only to find himself in a completely different environment. A place that is barren and unfriendly. I like how the director has created the shot of him under the covers, as as a viewer, we cannot tell where the cross-over is from bedroom to the place that he emerges.

The third place that we see him transfer to is that of an empty bar. This bar has an old style television on the side which is showing images of himself. This shot caught my attention as it caused me to have a point of interest in the scene which kept my focus.

The final scene is a mirror almost of the first scene, in which the character is back in bed in his suit and looking content.
